War is Hell – literally – in Bassett’s thoughtful, heartfelt, and suitably creepy if slightly familiar low-budget feature debut, in which a company of First World War British soldiers, sent over the top, find themselves in a deserted German trench, which they determine to defend, but things soon begin to go drastically and malevolently wrong.
