When their youngest son, who has a fascination for women’s clothing, makeup, and dolls, declares that he will marry the boy next door when he becomes a girl, a married suburban couple struggle against their friends’, their neighbours’, and their own prejudices, in Berliner’s entertaining if slightly too neatly concluded film, which boasts a remarkable and remarkably restrained central performance.
