Adapted from Gordon Graham’s play, itself based on an actual horrific murder, Woods’s bleak, powerful, and viscerally charged film follows a violent criminal, just released from prison, back to his family home, where he catches up with his equally violent brothers, his haggard mother, and his longsuffering girlfriend, building towards (and showing the aftermath of in flash-forwards) an as yet undefined crime.
