Despite being overly whimsical at times (the voiceover is particularly cringe-worthy), Jeffrey Blitz’s first fiction feature – following a love-struck stammerer’s attempts to overcome his affliction and excel on the debate team in order to win the girl of his dreams, a worldly, ambitious, older woman – proves to be thoroughly entertaining, and manages to warm the cockles whilst avoiding resorting to sentimentality or cliché.
