Broomfield’s first film – made with great technical restrictions (which probably helped rather than hindered the film’s visual style, particularly when seen in light of his subsequent work) – melancholically captures the human tragedy of the forced moves of a number of inner-city Liverpool communities to the ill-conceived new town of Kirby.
