Parodic or merely a tad lacking, Ozon’s decidedly camp period melodrama – an adaptation of Elizabeth Taylor(no not that one)’s novel, in which the ups and downs of a young English novelist in the 1910s and ‘20s are presented from her annoyingly precocious beginnings to her premature demise – is, either way, surprisingly watchable if not exactly particularly memorable or recommendable.
