Incredibly convoluted (but pleasingly so), To and Wai’s entertaining film – in which a former police detective (who can see, or at least claims to be able to see, people’s inner personalities) is enlisted by a young former colleague to investigate the case of a missing policeman whose gun has been used in a number of armed robberies – proves to be a slight but memorably inventive work, which is guaranteed, by its bonkers finale, to leave even the most attentive of viewers scratching their heads.
